James G. (Jamie) Thomas earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Leo University, graduating Cum Laude. Currently, he is pursuing a master’s degree in criminal justice. He is a dedicated Senior Homicide Detective with the Chesapeake Police Department with over 27 years of experience. He has investigated over 300 death scenes and has a well-rounded proven background in investigative strategies related to of all types of fatalities. He has been recognized by many of his peers as an expert in the field of Cellular Survey Analysis based on well-versed and documented successful prosecutions using key and facets of this technology, such as writing search warrants for cellular devices, obtaining call detail records, and mapping the data. This skill allowed Detective Thomas to solve a case of a twelve-year-old girl, kidnapped from South Norfolk and taken to Mexico. Using Cellular Analysis techniques and strategies he was able to locate and return the girl to her family. He has effectively prosecuted cases of burglary, larceny, forgery, aggravated assault, missing persons, robbery, abduction, murder for hire, and homicide. And in doing so, Detective Thomas has received numerous Meritorious Service Awards, such as the Hampton Roads Top Cop Award in 2000, the Great Bridge Ruritan Club Police Officer of the Year in 2000, and the Virginia Homicide Investigators Award in 2011.
